[Area TR 292 443] The "earthworks" in Lousyberry Wood, half a mile east of Ewell, are strip lynchets. (1)(2) In Lousyberry Wood strip lynchets are situated on a steep wooded slope facing south and average 2.0m in height. The position of one lynchet (extending from TR 29114434-29164427) in relation to the probable Saxon barrows (TR 24 SE 14) suggests a pre-Saxon date - probably IA/RB. A terrace-way (of uncertain date), from TR 29164427 - 29024420, commences at the crest of the hill and descends the slope in typical fashion finally disappearing in modern gardens at the edge of the wood. It is fairly overgrown rendering accurate observation difficult. (3)
