Fieldwalking by Smarden Local History Society found a possible iron smelting site. Landowner noticed a spread of iron slag in the field. Subsequent fieldwalking events confirmed the presence of bloomery slag, a few pieces of furnace, and a single sherd of possible Iron Age pottery. (1)
