A narrow, unpolished Neolithic axe, found 4-MAY-1963 off Sandgate High Street, is on display in Maidstone Museum (Acc. No. 36/1963). It was discovered by Mr R Smith, of No.14, Prospect Place, Maidstone, at 8ft depth whilst he was digging a sewer trench to a new housing estate. Mr Smith gave the approximate findspot as TR 20013509.
