Summary

Anglo-Saxon inhumation found in 1929 at Shelford Farm, Sturry. It was found with two gilt and bronze bird-shaped shield mounts. The finds are in the British Museum.

[TR 1649 6028] Anglo-Saxon burial found cAD 1929 [NAT] (1) Saxon burial: skeleton with armour destroyed except for a pair of giltbadges; sent to BM. (2) Two gilt, bronze and silvered bird-shaped shield (?) mounts from Shelford Farm, Sturry, on show in King Edward VII Gallery (showcase labelled "From Jutish Graves in Kent.... 6th - 7th century). Given by Dr Ince, 1929, 6-6, 1 & 2. (3) The site falls upon a southerly slope within a ploughed field. Nothingwas seen on the ground, and no further details are known to the present farm owner, who has been resident at Shelford Farm for severalyears. (4) Additional bibliography. (5)
