(TR 1787 6696) Underdown [NAT] (1) Underdown House, Underdown Lane, Eddington. Grade II*. Fine L-shaped house. The back or west-wing is the oldest part and is C17. The front was added in C18. 2 storeys and attics brown brick with red brick dressings. Hipped tiled roof with 2 hipped dormers. Cornice and parapet. 5 windows. The back windows on the W side and at the W end ofthe S front are the original casement windows, with small square leaded panes, but the windows of the main front facing E are sash windows with glazing bars intact. Doorcase with fluted Doric pilasters, triglyph frieze, pediment, semi-circular fanlight and door of 6 fielded panels. (2) Additional bibliography. (3)
