TR 12845949. At Moat House, Rough Common, there are the remains of a homestead moat. The north and east arms are wet but the remainder survives only as a shallow unsurveyable despression. Published 25" survey (where the feature is shown but not described) revised. (1) Moat House (NAT). (2) During the laying of mains services to a new housing estate a 1.5m wide trench was cut through the south corner of the moat ditch. Part of the remainder showed as a slight depression. The cutting through the two sides showed the ditch was 4.0m wide at ground level, 2.0m deep with sloping sides giving a flat platform 2.5m wide. Pottery sherds from the 14th to the 18th century were recovered. No traces of stratigraphy or structures were detached. (3) General listing. (4)
