Summary

One of four square defensive towers thought to have been constructed by Prior Chillenden at the time the stretch of city wall between Queningate and Northgate was rebuilt between 1390 and 1396. This length of wall formed part of the western boundary of the monastery circa 1492-1493.

[TR 15285799] Tower [NR]. (1) Built c1391-1411. (2) Complete and in good condition. (3) Tower No 12. One of four medieval square towers between Queningate [TR 15 NE 122] and North Gate [TR 15 NE 160]. Preserved. Built by Chillenden. (4)
