Summary

An Anglo-Saxon shield boss and skull fragment were found in 1955 during the excavation of foundations for a bungalow. Tentatively dated to the 6th century, these finds are now in store at the Royal Museum, Canterbury. There have been no subsequent discoveries and the site has been identified as a probable inhumation burial.

The site lies on the lower south-west facing slope of the North Downs scarp, just above Pilgrims' way. OD 120-125m.

TR 108420: Saxon umbo and skull fragment found Aug-Sept 1955 when excavating foundations for a bungalow being built for Mr Wetherell, Iden Corner, East Brabourne. Dated by V. Evision to 6th c. In store Royal Museum, Canterbury. Ref. No 1957/17/1 and 2. (1) Found under the W corner of the garage at TR 10724200. There have been no subsequent finds. (2) TR 095418. Inhumation burial, Idenborough House, East Bradbourne. Before 1958 an Anglo-Saxon shield boss and skull fragments were found when excavating foundations for a bungalow at Iden Corner. (3)
