In 1881, the nominally independent Oxted and Groombridge Company was incorporated to build a 12 mile long railway from Hurst Green on the Oxted and East Grinstead Line, to Ashurst Junction on the East Grinstead and Tunbridge Wells Line. It was opened in 1888.
