Moat built c.AD 1524. When the moat was cleared out in 1860, the old oak drawbridge was found. Moatlands is a large 19th c. brick house in castellated gothic style with no visible evidence of an earlier house. It is now used as a country club. To the W. of the house is a homestead moat, water-filled and generally in good condition although the N.W. angle suffered some mutilation when the drive to the house was constructed. No foundations are now visible on the island. Published survey (1/2500) correct. (1) TQ 674432 Moatlands, listed in a checklist of moated sites in Kent - December 1979. (2)
