Name:Medieval salt mound, Isle of Harty

Summary

Medieval salt mound. This is one of a group of earth mounds on the Harty Marshes. These mounds represent the remains of salt workings and are thought to be medieval. Many such mounds occur at Harty and Sheppey, while some have been excavated at Seasalter. On this particular site at Harty, post medieval pottery was found, including one salt-glazed piece, possibly related to salt making activities. The monument includes five mounds, a hollow and a very small mound.
