[TR 0528 5953] Chapel [NR] (Site of) [NAT] (1) Trinity Chapel, Boughton Street, was at the foot of the steep hill at the west end of the village, and on the south side of the road. A Hospital of the Holy Trinity for a master, lay-brethren and sisters, lepers and infirm, is mentioned in 1384. (2-4) The site of this chapel lies in a small orchard. There is nothing to be seen on the ground and no confirmatory evidence for the siting was obtained locally. (5) A large chapel - 150ft. by 50ft. - and a house of the same dimensions, for lepers and other infirm, dedicated to the Holy Trinity, was built at Boughton. First records of the hospital date from 1384 when Thomas-atte-Herst was pardoned by Richard II for having founded and built it without licence, also for having ordained a number of lay brothers and sisters to dwell there. No later records are known. (6-8)
