A Second World War reinforced concrete pillbox shown on a German map of British defences, on the East bank of the canal waterway North of The Redoubt, between Hythe and Dymchurch. The L-shaped pillbox was also visible on historical aerial photographs at this location.

Pillbox [shown on German map of British defences]. Pillbox [Sector 4]. Cassini ref 564506. On E bank of waterway N of The Redoubt, between Hythe and Dymchurch. (1)

The pillbox referred to above (Source 1) was visible on the aerial photographs and has been mapped as South East Rapid Coastal Zone Assessment NMP. The pillbox is located at TR1257 1324 and is constructed in an L shape, possibly to resemble a farm building. The pillbox is surrounded by barbed wire obstructions forming a defended point along the canal cutting. The pillbox was subsequently demolished after the war. (2)
