Summary

The church at Hurst has been ruinous since 1530. It was apparently destroyed by fire, as charred remains and burnt tiles were found when the site was partially uncovered some years ago. A solitary gravestone, nearly buried in earth, is all that remains to mark the churchyard at TR 07653457 and there is a solitary uninscribed grave slab.

[TR 07633457] ST. LEONARD'S CHURCH [NR] (site of) Grave YARD [NR] (1)

"The church at Hurst has been gone since 1530. It was apparently destroyed by fire, as charred remains and burnt tiles were found when the site was partially uncovered some years ago. A solitary gravestone, nearly buried in earth, is all that remains to mark the churchyard". (2)

[This probably applies to the O.S. entry. The name 'Falconhurst' is nearby]. (3)

Hurst Church, which was dedicated to St. Leonard, has been ruinated since 1530. (4)

There are no extant remains. In the graveyard at TR 07653457 there is a solitary uninscribed grave slab. (5)
