Summary

Pots assumed to belong to burials were been found at a house called "Old Trees" near Upper Ruckinge in December 1932. The identification of pots as burials was based on there positioning, set 8ft apart as though planted. The finds included Antonine samian ware (Form 31) of 150-200 AD and coarse wares of 50-150 AD or earlier.

["A" - TR 00003613] Pots, assumed to belong to burials as they were set 8ft apart as though planted, found in the garden of "Old Trees", owned by J.E Glazier at Latitude 51 degrees 5' 20", Longitude 0 degrees 51' 23". The finds included Antonine Samian ware (Form 31) of 150-200 AD and coarse wares of 50-150 AD or earlier. (1) ["B" - TR 00223580] Roman burials reported at house called "Old Trees" in December 1933. (2) [TR 00273580]. Burials found in garden of "Old Trees", Upper Ruckinge about December 1932. Reported December 1933 by J.E Glazier of "Old Trees". Although pottery only was reported burials are assumed from the fact that they were found about 8ft. apart "as if planted". Pottery found comprised Samian ware form 31 of AD 150-200, course wares of AD 50-150 and a scrap of AD 50 or earlier. (3,4) J.E Glazier no longer lives at "Old Trees" and local enquiries regarding his present whereabouts, and those of the finds, proved negative. The siting given by Auth. 1 falls in the grounds of "Old Trees". (5)
