[TQ 9097 6457] ROMAN BURIAL GROUND [R] (site of) [NAT] (1) In the field called Bexhill, to the east of Milton and on the north side of the creek, upwards of eight lead coffins have been found since 1868, together with pottery, glass vessels, etc. A green glass flagonis late 2nd century. (2)(3) The area is waste ground, formerly worked for brickearth. The Tithe Map shows "Boxhill Field" as centred at TQ 9097 6457 with "Boxhill Marsh" to its S.E. (a)(4). Additional references (5-7).

Roman cemetary identified in 1867, composed of inhumations 9in both wood and lead coffins and possible cremations. Exact location unidentified other than a 'field called Bex Hill' on the north shore of Milton Creek.(1) (2)
