Many 1st century vessels (all now in the B.M.) were found by Cdr. Gray along the edge of the Strayway between Captain's Creek and Burntwick Island (area centred **) in the period 1948-52. The Strayway has now almost disappeared but G. Davis digging in June 1964 in an area of briquetage centred ** found an almost complete 1st century narrow-mouthed jar. This remains in his possession. (1) Additional reference, information as authority 1. Possible pottery kiln site and/or salting (2). Additional bibliography (3-5). Survey 1999 identified salt winning debris with butchered animal bone dating to early C1st. (6). Briquetage found at this salt winning site (7).
