The Red Dog Public House is noted in the English Heritage Historic Area Assessment report for High Halstow Parish, part of the wider Hoo Peninsula study. It is mentioned that when mapped in 1839 for the Tithe Commission, the village contained the Red Dog Public House, among other buildings arranged around 'The Square'. The report notes that the pub is the only other designated building (grade II) in the village (apart from the Church). The pub is built of red brick, is said to date from the 17th century, extended in the 19th century and reworked in the late 20th century. (2).
