Description from record TQ 66 SE 20 :
[TQ 69006387] ST. Lawrence's Chapel [G.T.] (Remains of) (1) The Free Chapel of St. Lawrence, Halling, is another of the suppressed chantries under the operation of the Edwardian statute. It was converted into a dwelling house, and was plastered over and whitewashed. (2) The chapel of St. Lawrence became merged into a cottage in the walls of which is the stonework of the chapel windows. (3) ".........the ancient Chapel of St. Lawrence, now a cottage, having the stone work of the windows in the walls and in a cupboard in one of the rooms a piscina." (4) The only recognisable external features of this former chapel are the heads of two 13thc. lancets in the S. wall. The walls of the building, where not cement rendered, are of rubble, all other features are 'modern'. It is in use in tenements called "Chapel House". (5) No change. (6) Chapel Houses nos 1-3 (incl). HALLING CP THE STREET TQ 66 SE 12/59 West side Upper Walling 24.1.85 Chapel Houses, nos 1-3, (incl) - II
Chapel, now 3 cottages. C14, remodelled in C17-C19. Flint and stone, rendered with red and yellow brick dressings and brick addition to north. Gabled tiled roof with 2 brick off-centre ridge stacks. 3 gabled dormers. 2 storeys and attic. Irregular fenestration of 3 windows on both floors. Part of 2-centred arched head of stone window surround shows on south front. The chapel of St. Laurence was suppressed in 1547.
