LEEDS LOWER STREET TQ 8253 (east side)
8/94 Manor House 20.10.52. GV II* House. C15 with C19 alterations. Timber framed with plaster infilling. Left end bay on ground floor roughly coursed galletted stone. Plain tile roof. Wealden with open hall of 2 unequal bays, storeyed bay to right and formerly also to left. 2 storeys and attics on plinth. Right end bay jettied, jetty returned along right end. on plain dragon post. Rebated central hall post. Moulded flying wall-plate. Hollow-chamfered bracket from jettied first floor to right end of flying wall-plate, and solid bracket beneath central tie. Close-studded, with brattished fillet half way up first floor of right end bay, returning along right end elevation. Roof hipped to right with gablet. Red brick stack in front slope of roof to left end (in smaller bay of hall). 2 rear dormers. Irregular fenestration of leaded casements; one 4-light ovolo-moulded mullion window to right end bay and one C15 2-storey rectangular bay window to right bay of hall, with moulded wood jambs, single quatrefoil light to each side in solid side-pieces towards bottom,and curved brackets under, now containing one 3-light casement on each floor. Small blocked single-light opening on first floor to left end of hall with cusped ogee head and mouchettes to spandrels. One 2-light C15 stone window to ground floor of right end bay, with hollow-chamfered mullion, cusped lights, and moulded hood-mould. Right end elevation has 2 small moulded pointed-arched lights and 2-light casement to first floor, and small blocked rectangular window with chamfered stone jambs to ground floor. Ribbed door to left end of hall under shallow flat hood. C19 timber-framed lean-to to left. Interior not inspected. Said to have rich internal detailing. (J. [TQ 8232 5316] Manor House [NAT] (1) According to Mr L. R. A. Grove the private house at TQ 8232 5316, known as "Manor House", incorporates remains of the Abbey Gatehouse. The remains situated at the west end of the house, a 15th century half-timbered structure, comprise the lower storey of a stone buildingcontaining a 14th century window. (2) Manor House, Grade II*. House. 15th century with 19th century alterations. Timber framed with plaster infilling. (For full description see list.) (3) Manor House, an impressive well preserved timber framed house.
