(TQ 89955652) Yoke's Court (NAT) (1) Yokes Court. House. Early 17th c, altered in 19th c, restored 1984 after fire in 1930s. Red brick with occasional grey headers in English bond with plain tile roof. 2 storeys, attics and cellar on brick-coped plinth with plat band. Hipped roof. Projecting stack to left end and large brick ridge stack of 6 rectangular flues on coped brick plinth off-centre to right. 20th c hipped dormer to rear. Irregular fenestration of brick mullioned and transomed windows four 19th c and early 20th c and one 17th c, the latter of 2 tiers of 2 lights, rendered. 5-light mullioned and transomed window with hollow- chamfered mullions on ground floor to right of porch. Small gabled brick porch on low plinth with chamfered circular side-lights, towards left end. Small wood bell-frame to left end of ridge. Right side elevation has very short 2-storey projection with hipped roof, at right-angles towards rear, rear wall of which is a continuation of rear elevation. Short rear return wing to left, also integral, with large projecting brick stack to either side. Interior. Several 17th c window catches. Roof of aligned butt side purlins in short bays, with collars, only part remaining. Ground and first-floor fireplaces in left stack of left wing retain virtually complete. Painted plasterwork within the fireplace; black on white ground. On ground floor, repeating circular pattern to splayed sides, chequered pattern to back, leaving narrow central gap for fire. First floor repeating triangular pattern to splayed sides, floral design winding up back, again with gap. (2) Yoke's Court. An impressive and substantial brick building. The external fabric is more or less intact although the brick window frames and mullions have been cement rendered. The east part of the house has been gutted and the internal features are in the course of reconstruction. (3) Additional bibliography. (4)
