[TQ 8275 4312] Possibility a homestead moat shown on the 6" map. (1) 120.0m E of Brook Wood Farm is a well-preserved, waterfilled rectangular homestead moat. The enclosed area, approached by a wide causeway midway in the W. side, measures 64.0m N-S by 26.0m transversely. It is under pasture and there are no traces of building foundations. The moat was supplied with water from the nearby Hammer Stream via a channel still visible on the S. side. The present owner of Brook Wood Farm could offer no information about the site. (2) Published 25" Survey correct. (3) Additional bibliography. (4-6) This site was totally destroyed by the farmer circa 1985. There now no surface traces. (7)
