Monument details

HER Number:TQ 66 NW 100
Type of record:Listed Building
Name:MEOPHAM WINDMILL

Summary

Grade II* listed building. Main construction periods 1801 to 1952. Meopham Windmill was built in the early 19th century (most probably around 1819). By the Killick brothers. The Killicks were a family well known for milling in Kent. The smock mill in Meopham was one of a number of mills know to have stood within the parish of Meopham, the earliest documentary reference coming from as far back as the 13th century. The Killick family sold the mill in 1891. In 1959 the Norton family transferred the mill to Kent County Council. The machinery is complete, though due to long term deterioration is not in satisfactory working order.
