Summary

Two second century Romano-British cremation burial deposits in oak boxes were found during excavations for foundations of a bungalow at the corner of Puddingcake Lane, Rolvenden Hill. They were excavated by the Maidstone Museum Archaeological Association in November, 1955: the associated pottery is now in Maidstone Museum. A former owner of the bungalow stated that the cremations were found two yards south of the south west corner of the building at TQ 8605 3231, when an inspection chamber was being constructed.

[TQ 8606 3231] Two second-century R.B. cremation burial deposits in oak boxes were found in excavations for foundations of a bungalow at the corner of Puddingcake Lane, Rolvenden Hill. Excavated by M. Blumstein (Maidstone Museum Arch. Ass.) November, 1955. Pottery in Maidstone Museum. (1-2) Mr. Phillips, High Street, Rolvenden, former owner of the bungalow, states that the cremations were found two yards S of the SW corner of the building at TQ 8605 3231, when an inspection chamber was being constructed.
