Summary

In 1913 workmen found a Roman burial when they were widening the east side of a road called Colepit (or Copit or Coalpit Bank) Lane in the woods at Bridgewoods near Rochester. It contained a skeleton and and two vases, one decorated with a yellow scroll pattern. Both vases were destroyed.

A Roman burial comprising a skeleton and two vases, one decorated with a yellow scroll, was found by workmen in 1913 when widening the east side of a road called 'Colepit,' or 'Copit' Lane, in the woods at Bridgewoods near Rochester. Both vases were destroyed. (1) The road referred to is almost certainly 'Coalpit Bank' (name TQ 744636). No information on the site was, however, obtained (2)
