Description from record TR 15 NW 348:
No 38A Burgate [TR 14985782 sited from OS 1/1250 1974]. Grade II. A timber-framed building refaced in the 18th century. (1) Timber-framed building, much altered. (2)

The following text is from the original listed building designation:
1. 944 BURGATE (South West Side)
No 38A TR 1457 NE 4/25 3.5.67.

2. A timber-framed building refaced in C18. 3 storeys painted brick. Tiled roof. Bracket cornice. 1 cambered sash with glazing bars intact. Stringcourse and keystone. Good C18 shopfront with slightly curved bow. Right hand doorcase with rectangular fanlight. 2 steps.
Nos 38 to 44 (consec) and Nos 1 to 9 (consec) Butchery Lane together with Nos 1 to 8A (consec) and Nos 10 to 16 Mercery Lane form a group.
