Description from record TR 15 NE 5:
(TR 15755766) Smith's Hospital (TI) Almshouses (GT). (1) John Smith's Hospital, 37-44 Longport Street, Canterbury - 1657 almshouses. (2) Eight almshouses in good condition bearing a tablet "John Smith Esq. Founder of this Hospital 1657". GP: AO/65/59/4. (3) Almshouses dated 1657. Timber framed buildings of one storey cased in red brick. Tiled roof with 4 large brick stacks. Modillion eaves cornice. One restored casement to each with shutters. Shaped Dutch gables at the ends. The rear elevation has a roof in hips. No 38 has a massive red brick chimney breast. (4) Additional bibliography. (5-7)

Shaped Dutch gables at the ends. The rear elevation has a roof in hips. No 38 has a massive red brick chimney breast.
Nos 37 to 44 (consec) form a group.
