Monument details

HER Number:TQ 76 NW 31
Type of record:Monument
Name:Possible camp/enclosure, identified from cropmarks, Rochester/Wouldham boundary

Summary

An unknown enclosure was identified on an aerial photograph taken in 1928. An aerial photograph from just a few months later did not show this enclosure/camp.

There is nothing to be seen at ground level but it is possible that farm buildings, such as cowsheds and pigsties, once existed in this area.

[Centred at TQ 7213 6554] A possible camp on air-photo taken 14th July1928 (RAF NOS 03474-03476), but compare with the air-photo (No OS 2730) taken 27th September 1928 which shows nothing. (Chatham S Nos 46and 54). (1) Nothing to be seen on the ground. The farmer could offer no useful suggestion as to the cause of these crop or soil marks, except to state that many years ago cowsheds or pig-sties existed in the area. (2). No futher information.
