[TQ 71425392] Site of Chapel [NR] (1) The church of West Barming or Barmynget seems to have been reputed a chapel (a) but it was later esteemed as a parish church. It was always accounted as an appendage to the manor but in 1487 it was united to the church of Nettlestead as its revenues were reduced so that a rector could not be maintained. It was decreed that it should not be esteemed a church but a chapel of Nettlestead. Soon after this union the chapel seems to have fallen into ruin. Part of the wall of it remained in the next field west of Barnjet at a small distance south of the high road until every stone that was left of it was removed recently. (2) The site of the chapel is hidden from view by the terracing-out, upon the hill slope, of a piece of ground for tennis courts. The owner of the land has never encountered any unusual objects, whilst working in the ground around the tennis courts. (3)

The location recorded on OS mapping may be incorrect and the chapel may have been located to the west of the present buildings. (6)
