[TQ 71295096] Buston [NR] (1) The seat of Burston has the `right' wing built of brick and stone and seems to be temp. Elizabeth. The rest is much more modern. Uninhabited it is becoming a ruin: a farm house is built adjoining it. A surrounding park, enclosed temp. James II, has been disparked and converted into a farm. The manor occurs from temp. Henry III regularly to the time of writing. Its name was anciently Buston. (2) The house is now known as Buston Manor Farm (name board at gate). The earliest part is the east end of the east wing. This is a two-storied structure, stone below and close studded timber above and with what was apparently an external chimney at the west end. The timbers of the south front have been cemented over but they are exposed on the north. All the windows are modern but a four centred arch doorway is possibly original. The rest of the house consists of additions up to the 18th c. The bounds of the park referred to by authority 2 could not be determined. See AO/59/4/1 (3) Checked and correct. (4) Buston Manor. Listed Grade II*. (5) Additional bibliography. (6)
