There is a large fishpond near "The Friary" at Aylesford. (1) [Friary cented at TQ 72355885, see TQ 75 NW 29] Refers to tidal ponds once governed by sluices just below the buildings. (2) Centred TQ 72315894. A large apparently natural pond close to the friary buildings, which could have been used for a fish pond, but is now an ornamental feature. The western end has been filled in by tipping waste gravel. There are remains of a feeding channel running from the river, controlled by a sluice, thus making it a tidal pond. Reference Authy 2, only the one pond was found. Enquiries revealed no certain knowledge that this was a fish pond. (3) Checked and correct. (4) Western end filed after 1931 to accommodate the new drive and car parks. (7)
