[Name centred TQ 72825830] Preston Hall [GT] (Remains of) [TQ 72745830] Preston Hall [GT] (Site of) (1-2) The site of the old mansion of Preston Hall was just below the modern house and is partly coverd by an aviary. The old hall was the home of a branch of the Colepepers and there is still and old barn near the house with the letters TC on the window-frame. The modern house was built in 1857. (3) The siting given by Authority 2 falls upon ground occupied by a row of now-disused pigsties. A few yards to the North is the aviary, referred to by Authority 3 as being partly on the site. All fabric seen was of the 19c. and no trace of the old mansion was found. The barn, referred to by Authority 3, was not located, and must be presumed to have been dismantled. The Secretary of the Sanatorium, now housed within Preston Hall, while having knowledge of the inscription, could not say where the barn stood. (4) Aylesford Tithe Map 1840 shows a large building standing at the site shown by Authority 2. (5) Checked and correct. (6)
