Summary

A late a Bronze Age cup was found in 1904 during excavations for the tramway car shed in the cherry orchard on Tonbridge Road, Maidstone. Late Celtic pottery, a patera of Belgic black ware, and a bowl were subsequently found in Cherry Orchard Way in 1920.

[TQ 73845514] Urns found A.D. 1904 and 1920 [NAT] (1) A Late Bronze Age cup, now in Maidstone Museum, was found in 1904 during excavations for the tramway car shed in the cherry orchard on Tonbridge Road, Maidstone. Late Celtic pottery, a patera of Belgic black ware, and a bowl of South-eastern B type found in 1920. (2-6) A Gallo-Belgic patera and bowl and dish of S.E. "B" ware found in Cherry Orchard Way, 1920, are on display in Maidstone Museum. The area is now built over. No records have been found concerning these finds, but the Cherry Orchard Estate dates from about that time. Also on display is L.B.A. knobbed bowl or cup found under the tramcar shed (now a bus depot.) (centred at TQ 7372 5507) (d) in 1904. (No accession number). (7)
