Summary

A small bulbous beaker (date 250-300 A.D.) found in 1907, near Allington Castle, between the railway and the river, contained 22 "small brass" coins of Tetricus, several of which are barbarous (?Gaulish) copies. A small beaker of "Castor ware", with a hare on the side, was found, apparently in the same long-disused gravel pit, in about 1930.

A small bulbous beaker (date 250-300 A.D.) found in 1907, near Allington Castle, between the railway and the river, contained 22 "small brass" coins of Tetricus, several of which are barbarous (?Gaulish) copies. (1) [TQ 74905765] "Small urn containing 22 coins of Tetricus." (2) Similar information to that given by VCH. Also a small beaker of "Castor ware" found in the same pit about 1930. Hare on side which has been preserved. Now in Maidstone Museum. (3) The siting by Authority 2 falls within a long disused gravel pit now in the process of being filled in. The beaker and coins are on display in Maidstone Museum. The Castor ware beaker, incomplete and in pieces, is in store. (No accession numbers) No further details concerning these finds have been discovered. (4) Additional bibliography. (5)
