[TQ 75435847]. Romano-British burials found AD 1919-20 [T.I.]. (1) During the winter of 1919-20 several burial groups were uncovered in the sandpit on the east side of the road c. quarter mile north of Sandling and west of Abbey Court. The discoveries were not kept together but Maidstone Museum has the following: 4th C. New Forest bowl and an associated brown olla; Prob. 4th C. beaker; a one-handled flagon; a samian cup, Drag. 33. (2) Add. ref. (3) Pottery presented to Maidstone Museum by F. W. Legge includes a 4th c. AD bowl of red-coated ware imitating samian, on display. The remainder from this site is in store. (No accession numbers). Authority 1 siting falls beneath a widening of the Maidstone-Rochester Road. The sandpit has been disused for many years. (4)
