An evaluation was undertaken prior to redevelopment of the Town Yard site. A recently demolished, brick built, barrel vaulted drain was located in Trenches 2 and 3. (location accurate to the nearest 1m based on available information)

An evaluation prior to redevelopment of the Town Yard site was undertaken by Canterbury Archaeological Trust. The evaluation revealed a number of features once associated with the railway station which was situated at this site, one of which included a recently demolished, brick built, barrel vaulted sewer, this runs parallel at 2.3m south of a wall footing which relates to a large railway shed or terminus building. The original internal diameter of this sewer would have been approximately 0.9m. Two smaller brick barrel vaulted drains, located in Trench 3 and Trench 4 probably joined this sewer at right angles and together fairly certainly formed part of the drainage complex associated with the original railway station.
