The house has no remains of antiquity but the moat, partly filled with water, is still visible. A wooden cattle shed has always been called "the chapel," and a few years ago a paved path leading to it from the house was discovered below the soil. There is a mention in a will of a bequest to the "Light of the Blessed Mary of Achenden" in 1471.
