As part of a programme of archaeological investigations along the route of the Channel Tunnel Rail Link, Union Railways Limited (URL) commissioned the Museum of London Archaeology Service (MoLAS) to undertake an evaluation comprising fifteen trenches situated in c. 4.7ha of land to the south-east of the centre of Ashford, Kent. The area of investigation was bounded by the existing London to Folkestone railway to the south, Boys Hall Road to the west and Ashford Business Park to the north and east.

A spread/layer of ragstone was found poss. relating to 17th Century formal gardens at Boys Hall Moat.

To the south east of the above features another spread of ragstone was found possibly representing the base of a wall also associated with the formal gardens. A large cut feature was found and interpreted as a pond or moat this also had a ragstone foundation. (1-2)
