S Pearson and Son Ltd, the contractor for Dover's Admiralty Harbour built in 1898-9 a standard guage private railway from a junction with the South Eastern & Chatham Railway at Martin Mill Station for the transportation of sand & gravel. The railway pre-dates the Cliff Road and some of the sleepers are still in position along the cliff edge. By 1919 the railway was probably disused.(1)
