Three parallel banks and corresponding ditches lie in rough grass just below the crest of Cornhill. They are orientated NE-SW along long axis. Present on 25" Third Ed 1932. Other earthworks in locality but difficult to see relationship in long grass. These are the remain of rifle butts, recorded as being "old" in 1927. Part of the Rifle range west of the prison has to be closed because shot landed in the Prison compound. It could be that this replacement range was in use from c.1885 to 1920s. (1)
