An icehouse was formerly located in the grounds of Kingsgate Castle. It is marked on the 1st edition Ordnance survey map of c.1858-1873. It is marked as disused on the 2nd edition of c.1891-1898 and the outline of the monument is visible on the 3rd and 4th edition also (c.1905-1922).
