Summary

The Sharpe's Green Cement Works was established by Cary and Bernard before 1908. It utilised Horrid Hill, an island connected by a causeway from the shore near Rainham. This causeway was built up to allow chalk to be brought via rail from the works' put on the shore. The works became part of the British Portland Cement Manufacturers in 1911 and was closed two years later.

The works was established by Cary and Bernard before 1908, utilising Horrid Hill, an island connected by a causeway from the shore near Rainham. (1) The causeway was built up to allow locomotion to bring chalk from the works' put on the shore. The works became part of the British Portland Cement Manufacturers in 1911 and was closed two years later. (2) The wharf on Horrid Hill was constructed prior to the works and a causeway linked to it to the mainland. Site photographs (3-6).
