The Brewery was probably established by Mr Mercer in 1785 and probably acquired by Chapman & Sons before 1859. By 1868 T.Chapman closed the Brewery and moved to Ashford.(1) The associated Malt House was probably still in use, by Chapman, until sometime after 1882.(2) A Malt House is still marked on the OS 25" maps, 3rd ed.(1909), but is demolished by the modern map.(3)
