brewery and malthouse is visible in this location on historic OS maps dating to the later 19th and early 20th centuries. This was originally the Castle Brewery and Malthouse which may have been established in around 1859, by T. Huntly, who then moved by 1867, to 6 Hubert Terrace. By 1911 the premesis was acquired by Leney &Co - owners of the larger Phoenix Brewery located nearby and it became their number 4 malthouse. (1-4)
