[TQ 61637412] A "cave" at the bottom of the Ebbsfleet valley was broken into by a tramway which was cut in 1881. Roman pottery was found at the bottom (TQ 67 SW 1056) . The site is within 200 yds. of the old limit of the high tides (1). Nothing seen on the ground which is waste land (2). Additional bibliography and references (3,4, 5).

The shaft passed though old river deposits for 21ft. 6in to the arch in the chalk and then at 12ft 9in the water level was reached. It is unlikely the bottom of the cave has been discovered based on the size of other caves in the area. (1)
