A pit at Gravesend, excavated 1938-9 by J.P.T. Burchell and listed by Radford as of Little Woodbury type (1), yielded Iron Age pottery. "... the fabric of some sherds, a hard grey ware with strongly polished black surface, is akin to that from some east Kentish sites. The percentage of combed wares is higher than usual in west Kentish sites where this form of decoration is poorly represented." (1-2) The pit, at TQ 620 737, was discovered during chalk quarrying. The finds are in the BM: the quarry is now disused (3). Additional bibliogrpahic references (4,5,6,7).
