Explosives factory established by Perch1orate Safety Explosives Ltd in 1915 at Joyce Green. Purchased by Joseph Wells and Sons in 1930s and, since 1968 a Series of others (Schermuly Ltd; Pains Wessex; Unwin Pyrotechnics) until finally closed by Astra in 1989. Presently (1993) disused with some 60 small buildings standing separated by blast walls (1). Site photographs (2-6). Overgrown and fenced off area unable to access the explosive works in 2005 (7)
