Possible site of a battle between Edmund Ironside and Canute at Gillingham in AD 1016. This Battle is mentioned in the Annals of St Austin (Hasted) and is marked at this location on the 2nd, 3rd and 4th edition Ordnance Survey maps. There is some uncertainty as to whether this is the correct location or a mistake by the Ordnance Survey inaccurately locating the site.

Battle between Edmund Ironside and Canute at Gillingham in 1016, mentioned in Annals of St Austin (Hasted). Site of battle marked as cTQ 788 690 nr Waterside Lane on OS 1932 map. Subsequently not inc on later additons suggesting OS had inaccurately located the site. (1-2)
Site of Battle is also marked on the 2nd and 4th edition Ordnance Survey maps (3).
