Type of record:Monument
Name:Late Neolithic/Bronze Age ring ditch and Bronze Age burials and post holes, Monkton

Summary

A number of Bronze Age features were found during work on the A253 near Monkton. Two high status burials were found at the centre of a complex of burial mounds. The mounds mostly dated to the middle to late Bronze Age, and were thought to be later in date than the burials. A ring ditch formed of a circle of interconnecting pits was also found and this was dated to the late Neolithic or early Bronze Age. A number of post pits on an east-west alignment were thought to be associated with the mounds. Two beaker burials were also found cutting into these.
