Kingsferry Bridge, initially a rail bridge opened in 1860 by the London, Chatham and Dover Railway, indicated on chart (1). A single rail track with a roadway on the E side. A small lifting span in the centre with machinery control room housed in two buildings built over the roadway. The lifting mechanism and counterweights were situated over the rail track. Central section subsequently replaced. The present bridge was opened in 1960 (built to designs by Mott, Hay and Anderson) and included a central lifting section with four vertical tracks set into four reinforced concrete towers, site photographs (2-5). Site identified during 2002 survey while earlier bridge footings comprise several courses of brickwork on foreshore. Bricks are frogged. (6).
